Can my mattress cause pain

A person spends about one-third of their life sleeping or attempting to sleep. So choosing the right mattress is critical. There are many qualities to a mattress like firmness, breathability, support, quality of materials that needs to be considered before your purchase. A good mattress has generous depth, spinal support, breathable fabric, multiple layers, pressure point relief, memory foam, cooling materials and hypoallergenic materials.

How do you know if you have a bad mattress

  1. You may be waking up with pain in your neck or back or stiffness in your body
  2. You may have had a restless sleep and woke up multiple times
  3. There could be depressions and markings in your mattress that are uneven
  4. There is creaking and squeaking in your mattress
  5. Your mattress is over 10 years old

It is important to replace your mattress under these circumstances. Further, you can reduce issues associated with a poor mattress by speaking with your physical therapist. Your Physical Therapist can help you

  1. Understand and implement good sleeping positions with the use of supportive pillows
  2. Give you series of exercises to reduce pain and stiffness
